Accessing Survey Data
The Data page enables you access and view the data collected for any specific questionnaire in a variety of formats. Survey data for every project is placed in an individual text file named according to what is specified on the Projects page (see Setting up Projects. Projects without a specific data file name will be saved in a file with the same name as the questionnaire name with a ".data" suffix.
AskAnywhere survey data are saved in a tagged fashion where every answer is enclosed with the corresponding answer variable name. This labeling approach greatly improves data identification in case survey instruments are altered in the middle of a data collection cycle. AskAnywhere’s data crunching routines read and parse data files presenting results in a variety of formats.
- If you have collected data (e.g., tested surveys) using an unlicensed applet version of AskAnywhere, data is not saved and will not be available for viewing.
- If you are using an unlicensed HTML version of AskAnywhere, data will only be saved for the first five questions, and the value of the first field of data will be preceded by the word “DEMO.”
To access the survey results, complete the following steps.
 - Select the Data tab.
 - From the Questionnaire Name pull-down menu, select the questionnaire for which you would like to view results.
 - From the View pull-down menu, select the desired output: Frequency Table, DATA Table, or Tabbed-Data File format.

 - The DATA Table provides the following view of the data.
- The Tabbed-Data File provides for the download of the data in a tabbed format that you can view (e.g., with Notepad or Microsoft Excel) and/or use with other statistical analysis software.
 - If you select the tabbed-data file format and then select View Data, the following screen appears.
- To save the file, select Save.
- To cancel the download, select Cancel.

- To open the folder that contains the tabbed data file you just saved, select Open Folder.
- To open the tabbed data file you just saved, select Open.

 - To view only specific variables of your data records, enter the desired variable names in the Variables field. The variable names could be those specified when the questionnaire was created with the AskAnywhere Editor or those defaulted by the system if none were specified at that time. This field is optional but case-specific. The system default is blank. You can enter values in this field in one of several ways (i.e., with spaces between each variable name, with a comma between each variable name, or with a comma and a space between each variable name). For example you can enter the variable names as follows:
- Q1 Q2 Q4 Q5
- Q1,Q2,Q4,Q5
- Q1, Q2, Q4, Q5
 - When viewing the DATA Table, you may choose to restrict the output to only include a range of records or a specific record from your data file. To view only a specific record of the data file, enter the desired record number(s) in the Record field. You can either enter one record number (e.g., 1) or one range of records (e.g., 2 to 4).
- Select View Data to view the specified data.
