Setting up Server Paths

Click here to view a detailed graphic. The Server page enables you to define the path to the directories (repositories) where projects and data files are saved.  In addition, the Server page enables you to define the IP address or domain name of your AskAnywhere server.  To change any of the values in these fields, make the desired changes and select Save.  To clear all the values on the screen, select Reset.

  • The Projects field indicates the location on the server where all project files are saved.  Project files include all questionnaires and their resources (e.g., survey questions, images, data dictionary files, media files, etc.).  The location noted in this field is the root directory for all projects.  Each project then has a separate directory within this root directory.
  • The Data Files> field indicates the location on the server where survey data files are saved.  Data files include the answers to questionnaires.  The location noted in this field is the root directory for all survey data files.  Each survey then has a separate data file within this root directory.
  • The AskAnywhere Server Address field defines the IP address or domain name used by the CAPI application and the test questionnaire links to identify the server on which the AskAnywhere Administrator is installed.  By default, the Administrator will write its IP address to the CAPI jar file.  To modify this address, in case your server is known by more than one IP address or if it has a domain name, enter the desired IP address or domain name in this field.  This field is optional.  It may be used to prevent accidental use of “localhost” in CAPI or generated links.  Enter data in one of the following formats.
    • xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx, where “xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx” is the external IP address (accessible to the internet) for the AskAnywhere server component.
    • www.somedomainname.com, where “www.somedomainname.com” is the domain name for the AskAnywhere server component

Note:  The system automatically searches for the appropriate projects and data file paths when the Administrator is installed.  If the Projects or Data File fields are empty, type in the desired paths.  If they are filled, we recommend that you do not change the default paths.
