The AskAnywhere Editor User’s Guide provides information about using the AskAnywhere Editor. It includes the following sections.
- About AskAnywhere -- provides a brief overview of the AskAnywhere survey system, describes the system and hardware requirements necessary to install and run it, and provides information about known bugs.
- Getting Started -- provides information about launching the AskAnywhere Editor, getting familiar with the various AskAnywhere Editor windows, selecting the display language, determining what version of the AskAnywhere Editor you are using, updating the AskAnywhere Editor, and getting familiar with the various keyboard shortcuts you can use within the editor.
- Opening and Closing Questionnaires -- provides information about creating new questionnaires, opening existing questionnaires, and closing questionnaires.
- Working with Questions -- provides information about creating, editing, positioning, sizing, and deleting questions within a questionnaire.
- Working with Answers -- provides information about creating, editing, positioning, sizing, and deleting answers within a questionnaire as well information about creating variable names and labels for answers and finding answers within a questionnaire.
- Working with Multimedia Elements -- provides information about creating, positioning, sizing, and deleting multimedia elements (such as GIF and JPG graphic files and AU audio files) within a questionnaire.
- Working with Library Items -- provides information about creating and saving library items with the AskAnywhere Editor. Library items are predefined questions, answers, and/or multimedia elements that you can quickly and repeatedly include in your questionnaires without the need to create them from scratch. The AskAnywhere Editor provides a starting set of library items for your use.
- Saving and Testing Questionnaires -- provides information about saving and testing questionnaires created with the AskAnywhere Editor.
- Creating Single Response Items -- provides information about creating questions that ask survey respondents to limit their answer to a single item or a single response.
- Creating Multiple Response Items -- provides information about creating questions that prompt survey respondents to supply more than one answer or response to a question.
- Creating Integer and Real Number Response Item Questions -- provides information about creating integer and real number response or answer items.
- Creating Other Numeric Response Item Questions -- provides information about creating other (non-integer and non-real number) numeric response or answer items such as analog scales and fixed sum items.
- Creating Skip and Filter Instructions -- provides information about creating basic skip and filter instructions as well as creating more advanced skip and filter instructions using a variety of skip/filter logical operators, mathematical operators, and/or mathematical functions. Skip and filter instructions, respectively, determine where the next question in a questionnaire is located and whether a particular question should be asked based on the answer to a given response set(s). Skip and filter instructions enable you to create flexible questionnaires that adjust the questions survey respondents view based on their answer to a given response set(s).
- Creating Adaptive Questionnaires -- provides information about creating adaptive questionnaires. Adaptive questionnaires are those that change based on a respondent's answers, information contained in an external database, and/or dynamic calculations within a questionnaire. You create adaptive questionnaires by adding adaptive tags to any part of a question or answer within a questionnaire.
- Formatting Text and Page Appearances -- provides information about changing text style, size, and color; changing the background color and images of questionnaire pages; resizing questionnaire pages; and using the snap feature.
- Managing Questionnaire Elements and Pages -- provides information about displaying item numbers throughout a questionnaire; adding, moving, and deleting questionnaire pages; saving and inserting questionnaire pages in other questionnaires; and randomizing questionnaire pages.

- Appendix A: Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) Information -- provides information about designing and responding to questionnaires using WAP devices (e.g., mobile phones). It includes information that will help interviewers more effectively and efficiently use their WAP devices as well as considerations that should be taken into account when designing questionnaires for delivery to WAP devices.
Notes:
 - Throughout this document, miniature images with different colored frames (e.g., blue or purple) are shown to the right of their corresponding text to indicate that a larger, more detailed image is available, if desired. Images without different colored frames do not have a larger, more detailed image available because they are already shown full size. Where available, to view the larger, more detailed image in a separate window, select the desired miniature image. (The size of the separate window determines whether the image is displayed in full size.)
- The screens shown in this document are meant only as a guide and may change without notice.
