Deleting Multimedia Elements

The following sections provide information about creating, positioning, sizing, and deleting multimedia elements (such as GIF and JPG graphic files as well as AU audio files) within a questionnaire.

Note:  To learn about formatting background colors and images, refer to Formatting Text and Page Appearance.

Adding Multimedia Elements

To add multimedia elements to a questionnaire page, complete the following steps.

  1. Access the Multimedia Editing window in one of the following ways.
    • Select graphic to view a larger image.
    • From the main toolbar, select the Add Multimedia to Page button.
    • Select graphic to view a larger image.

    • From the Add pull-down menu, select Add Multimedia to Page.
  2. The Multimedia Editing window opens.  Identify the desired primary or secondary multimedia file in one of the following ways.

    Note:  Primary files are those multimedia elements that are always displayed on a questionnaire page (i.e., JPG and GIF files).  Secondary files are those that are executed only when a respondent performs a certain task (e.g., clicks on a specific button).  Secondary files may include audio (e.g., AU) or graphic (e.g., JPG, GIF, HTML, URLs) files.

    • Type the path of the desired file in the Primary File or Secondary File field.
    • Select graphic to view a larger image.

    • Select the appropriate Get button.  From the Open File window, select the desired file and select Open.

  3. To cancel the selection of the multimedia element, select Cancel.  To add the multimedia element to the questionnaire, select Ok.
  4. Select graphic to view a larger image.

  5. Once you select Ok, the AskAnywhere Editor inserts the desired multimedia file onto the questionnaire page.

Editing Multimedia Elements

To edit an existing multimedia element on a questionnaire page, complete the following steps.

  1. Access the Multimedia Editing window in one of the following ways.
    • Double click on the desired multimedia element.
    • Select graphic to view a larger image.
    • From the Utilities pull-down menu, select Multimedia Editing. Note: If you do not first select the desired multimedia element by single clicking on it, the system automatically opens the first multimedia element on the page.
  2. Select graphic to view a larger image.

  3. The Multimedia Editing window opens. Make the desired changes to the multimedia element.
  4. To cancel the unsaved changes to the multimedia element, select Cancel. To save the current multimedia element, select Ok.

You can position multimedia frames by sizing, horizontally centering, moving, and/or copying them.

Note:  The steps for positioning multimedia frames are very similar to those of positioning question frames.  For additional information, refer to Positioning Question Frames.

Sizing Multimedia Frames

To size a multimedia frame, complete the following steps.

  1. Select the desired multimedia frame.  A black border appears around the multimedia frame with a small white box in the lower, right corner.
  2. Place your cursor on the white box, click and hold, and then drag the cursor to adjust the size of the multimedia frame as desired.

Sizing Multimedia Frames by Copying Another Frame

To copy the size of one frame to another, complete the following steps.

  1. Select the question, answer, or multimedia frame of which you want to copy the size and select G.
  2. Select the multimedia frame to which you want to apply that size and select S.

Moving Multimedia Frames

To move a multimedia frame on a page, place your cursor on a multimedia frame, click and hold, and then drag the cursor to adjust the position of the multimedia frame.

Horizontally Centering Multimedia Frames

To horizontally center a multimedia frame, complete the following steps.

  1. Select the desired multimedia frame.  A black border appears around the multimedia frame with a small white box in the lower, right corner.
  2. Select Center Horizontally from the Edit pull-down menu or select Ctrl + H.

Horizontally Positioning Multimedia Frames by Copying Another Frame

To copy the horizontal location of one frame to another, complete the following steps.

  1. Select the question, answer, or multimedia frame of which you want to copy the horizontal position and select G.
  2. Select the multimedia frame to which you want to apply that horizontal position and select H.

Vertically Positioning Multimedia Frames by Copying Another Frame

To copy the vertical location of one frame to another, complete the following steps.

  1. Select the question, answer, or multimedia frame of which you want to copy the vertical position and select G.
  2. Select the multimedia frame to which you want to apply that vertical position and select V.

Horizontally and Vertically Positioning Multimedia Frames by Copying Another Frame

To copy the horizontal and vertical location of one frame to another, complete the following steps.

  1. Select the question, answer, or multimedia frame of which you want to copy the horizontal and vertical position and select G.
  2. Select the multimedia frame to which you want to apply that position and select P.

Moving/Copying Multimedia Frames to Another Page

To move a multimedia frame from one page to another, complete the following steps.

  1. Select the desired multimedia frame.  A black border appears around the multimedia frame with a small white box in the lower, right corner.
  2. From the Edit pull-down menu, select Cut (to move the multimedia frame) or Copy (to copy the multimedia frame).
  3. Move to the page in the questionnaire where you want to place the multimedia frame.  To do this, select either the Go to Next Page or Go to Previous Page arrow on the main toolbar or use the Page Number Indicator field by clicking and holding the page number indicator and dragging it to the left or right until it indicates the desired page number.
  4. From the Edit pull-down menu, select Paste.

    Note:  If you paste the multimedia frame on the wrong page, simply go to the Edit pull-down menu and select Undo Paste.  Then, go to the correct page and select Paste from the Edit menu.

Deleting Multimedia Elements

To delete a multimedia frame from a questionnaire page, complete the following steps.

Note:  The steps for deleting multimedia frames are very similar to those of deleting question frames.  For additional information, refer to Deleting Questions.

  1. Select the desired multimedia frame.  A black border appears around the multimedia frame with a small white box in the lower, right corner.
  2. Delete the multimedia frame in one of the following ways.
    • Select the Delete key.
    • Select Delete from the Edit pull-down menu or select CTRL + D .
