Working With Questions

Adding Questions | Editing Questions | Positioning Question Frames | Deleting Questions

The following sections provide information about creating, editing, positioning, sizing, and deleting questions within a questionnaire.

Adding Questions

To add a question to a questionnaire page, complete the following steps.

  1. Access the Question Editing window in one of the following ways.
    • Select graphic to view a larger image.
    • From the main toolbar, select the Add Question to Page button.
    • Select graphic to view a larger image.

    • From the Add pull-down menu, select Add Question to Page.

  2. The Question Editing window opens. Type the desired text of your question.
  3. To cancel the unsaved changes to the question, select Cancel. To save the current question, select Apply. To save the current question and close the Question Editing window, select Ok.
  4. Select graphic to view a larger image.

  5. Once you save the current question and close the Question Editing window, the Main Program window opens with the question enclosed in a text frame.

Note: If you add a question to a page in the middle of a questionnaire but do not add an answer to that same page, the system skips that page and ignores anything on it when respondents view the questionnaire.

Editing Questions

To edit an existing question on a questionnaire page, complete the following steps.

  1. Access the Question Editing window in one of the following ways.

    • Double click on the desired question.
    • Select graphic to view a larger image.

    • Select Question Editing from the Utilities pull-down menu or select Ctrl + 1. Note: If you do not first select the desired question by single clicking on it, the system automatically opens the first question on the page.
  2. Select graphic to view a larger image.

  3. The Question Editing window opens. Make the desired changes either directly to the question text or by using the various options on the Edit pull-down menu.
  4. To cancel the unsaved changes to the question, select Cancel. To save the current question, select Apply. To save the current question and close the Question Editing window, select Ok.

You can position question frames by sizing, horizontally centering, moving, and/or copying them.

Sizing Question Frames

To size a question frame, complete the following steps.

  1. Select the desired question. A black border appears around the question with a small white box in the lower, right corner.
  2. Select graphic to view a larger image.

  3. Place your cursor on the white box, click and hold, and then drag the cursor to adjust the size of the question frame as desired.

Sizing Question Frames by Copying Another Frame

To copy the size of one frame to another, complete the following steps.

  1. Select the question, answer, or multimedia frame of which you want to copy the size and select G.
  2. Select the question frame to which you want to apply that size and select S.

Moving Question Frames

Select graphic to view a larger image.To move a question frame on a page, place your cursor on a question, click and hold, and then drag the cursor to adjust the position of the question.

Horizontally Centering Question Frames

To horizontally center a question frame, complete the following steps.

  1. Select the desired question. A black border appears around the question with a small white box in the lower, right corner.
  2. Select graphic to view a larger image.

  3. Select Center Horizontally from the Edit pull-down menu or select CTRL + H.

Note: To horizontally center everything on a questionnaire page at the same time, select Select All from the Edit pull-down menu or select CTRL + A. This highlights all the frames on a particular questionnaire page. Then, select Center Horizontally from the Edit pull-down menu or select CTRL + H. This feature centers the entire block of items on the questionnaire page, not each item individually.

Horizontally Positioning Question Frames by Copying Another Frame

To copy the horizontal location of one frame to another, complete the following steps.

  1. Select the question, answer, or multimedia frame of which you want to copy the horizontal position and select G.
  2. Select the question frame to which you want to apply that horizontal position and select H.

Vertically Positioning Question Frames by Copying Another Frame

To copy the vertical location of one frame to another, complete the following steps.

  1. Select the question, answer, or multimedia frame of which you want to copy the vertical position and select G.
  2. Select the question frame to which you want to apply that vertical position and select V.

Horizontally and Vertically Positioning Question Frames by Copying Another Frame

To copy the horizontal and vertical location of one frame to another, complete the following steps.

  1. Select the question, answer, or multimedia frame of which you want to copy the horizontal and vertical position and select G.
  2. Select the question frame to which you want to apply that position and select P.

Moving/Copying Question Frames to Another Page

To move a question from one page to another, complete the following steps.

  1. Select the desired question. A black border appears around the question with a small white box in the lower, right corner.
  2. Select graphic to view a larger image.

  3. To move the question, select Cut from the Edit pull-down menu or select CTRL + X. To copy the question, select Copy from the Edit pull-down menu or select CTRL + C.

  4. Move to the page in the questionnaire where you want to place the question by completing one of the following steps.
      Select graphic to view a larger image.
    • Select the Go to Next Page or Go to Previous Page arrow on the main toolbar until the Page Number Indicator indicates the desired page number.
    • Select graphic to view a larger image.

    • Use the Page Number Indicator field by clicking and holding the page number indicator and dragging it to the left or right until it indicates the desired page number.

  5. Select graphic to view a larger image.

  6. Select Paste from the Edit pull-down menu or select CTRL + V.

    Note: If you paste the question on the wrong page, select Undo Paste from the Edit pull-down menu or select CTRL + Z. Then, go to the correct page and select Paste from the Edit menu or select CTRL + V.

Deleting Questions

To delete a question from a questionnaire page, complete the following steps.

  1. Select the desired question. A black border appears around the question with a small white box in the lower, right corner.
  2. Delete the question in one of the following ways.
    • Select the Delete key.
    • Select graphic to view a larger image.
    • Select Delete from the Edit pull-down menu or select CTRL + D.
