Creating Questions with Specific Answer Types

Most surveys contain various types of questions, including questions that seek just one answer (e.g., "Do you agree or disagree with the government's foreign policy?") or questions that ask for more than one answer (e.g., "Identify two or more vegetables from the following list of farm products."). Many questions seek qualitative information in the form of open-ended responses (e.g., "In your own words, please tell us what you like about the taste of our new product?") or quantitative information in the form of numerical responses (e.g., "What is your age in years as of your last birthday?").

The following sections detail how to use the AskAnywhere® Editor to create survey questions with specific answer or response types, including the following:

  • single response items,
  • single response items in a pop-up menu,
  • single response items with the "other" option,
  • multiple response items,
  • multiple response items with random presentation of items,
  • multiple response items - N items,
  • multiple response items - N items with a mutually exclusive flag,
  • integer and real number numeric responses,
  • analog rating scales, and
  • fixed sum scale items.
