Editor Install Instructions

The following section provides information about installing the AskAnywhere Editor on a Windows operating system. To install the AskAnywhere Editor, complete the following steps.

  1. Go to http://www.senecio.com/askdownload.html.
  2. Click here to view a detailed graphic.

  3. In the AskAnywhere Download section, fill out the required registration information and select Download Software. Note: From the AskAnywhere Package pull-down menu, select AskAnywhere Editor.
    • To clear all the information on the form, select Reset Form.Caution:Selecting Reset Form deletes all the information on the form.
    • To make a change to a specific field value(s) on the form, move your cursor to the desired field(s) and make the required change(s).

    Note: All fields marked with an asterisk (*) are required. The system will not allow you to move to the next step in the installation process until you have entered data in all of the required fields.

  4. After you have completed the Registration screen and selected Download Software, the Security Warning window appears. Select Yes to continue with the installation.
    • To cancel the installation, select No.
    • To obtain additional information about this window, select More Info.

  5. After you have selected Yes, download the appropriate software by performing one of the following steps.

    • Select Start Installer for xxx (where "xxx" is the name of the recommended installation for your platform) and select or deselect the Include VM in Download checkbox.The Include VM in Download option enables you to choose whether you want to download a Java Virtual Machine (JVM) with the AskAnywhere Editor.The system defaults to include a VM in the download.

      Notes:

      • If you do not have a Java Virtual Machine (JVM) installed on your computer, are unsure about whether you have one installed, or are unsure that your JVM is current, ensure that Include VM in Download is selected (i.e., a check mark appears in the Include VM in Download checkbox).For most operating systems, the install process will later ask you which JVM you want to use for the AskAnywhere Editor.
      • If you are sure that you already have a current JVM installed on your computer and want to use that JVM for the AskAnywhere Editor, ensure that Include VM in Download is not selected (i.e., no check mark appears in the Include VM in Download checkbox).

    • Select the appropriate download from the list of Available Installers.This list also provides options for including or not including the JVM with the download.
    • Note:If you choose to select a download from the list of Available Installers, you should refer to the instructions for that specific download, as you will be required to perform additional steps from those listed in this documentation.For example, the system will ask you where to place that download file, and you will need to run the download file yourself rather than the system doing it for you automatically.To view the appropriate instructions, select View beside the desired download.

  6. After you have selected to download the appropriate software, the Checking Space on Local Disk window appears briefly. To cancel the download, select Cancel.

  8. The Download Progress window appears.This window provides information about how far the download has progressed, approximately how much time is remaining for the download, and the location in which the download is storing the file on your computer.We recommend that you note the location for future reference. To cancel the download, select Cancel.
  9. Note:The system may skip this step if you have previously downloaded the AskAnywhere Editor install program.

  10. The Starting Installer and InstallAnywhere windows appear.The first window reiterates the information about the location in which the installer is being downloaded; Click here to view a detailed graphic.the second window provides information about the progress of the extraction.To cancel the extraction, select Cancel from the second window.

    Note:The system may skip this step if you have previously downloaded the AskAnywhere Editor install program.

  11. A language selection screen appears.The default language for the install program is English.To select a difference language, select the desired language from the Language pull-down menu.Select OK to proceed with the installation.

  13. After you have selected OK, the Introduction window appears. Select Next to proceed with the installation.

    • At any time during the installation process, if you do not want to continue with the installation, select Cancel. You are then given a choice to return to the install (Resume) or cancel it (Quit).
    • At any time during the installation process, if you want to return to the previous screen, select Previous.

  14. After you have selected Next, several License Agreement windows appear. Carefully review each license agreement in its entirety and determine whether you want to accept the license agreement terms.

    • To accept the license agreement terms and proceed with the installation, select I accept the terms of the License Agreement and then Next.

    • If you do not agree to accept the license agreement, select I do NOT accept the terms of the License Agreement.You are then given a choice to return to the license agreement (Resume) or cancel the installation (Quit).

  15. After you have accepted the terms of the various license agreements, the Choose Install Folder window appears. Select the location in which you want the AskAnywhere Editor program installed.
    • To select the default location (i.e., C:\Program Files\AskAnywhere), select Next.
    • To select a location different from the default, either type the path directly in the Where Would You Like to Install? field or select Choose to access the Browse for Folder window and then select Next.
    • To restore the default location, select Restore Default Folder.

  16. After you have selected Next, the Choose Shortcut Location window appears.Select the location in which you want the AskAnywhere Editor shortcut installed.
    • To choose a new program group (i.e., subdirectory within the Windows\Start Menu directory), select In a new Program Group, enter the name of the program group in the associated field, and select Next.
    • To choose an existing program group, select In an existing Program Group, select the name of the program group from the associated pull-down menu, and select Next.
    • To choose the Start Menu, select In the Start Menu and then Next.
    • To choose the Desktop, select On the Desktop and then Next.
    • To choose the Quick Launch Bar, select In the Quick Launch Bar and then Next.
    • To choose another location, select Other, enter the name of the other location in the associated field or select Choose to access the Browse for Folder window, and then select Next.
    • To forego creating a shortcut for the AskAnywhere Editor, select Donít create icons and then Next.

    Note:The Create Icons for All Users option is available with select options (e.g., In a new Program Group, In the Start Menu, On the Desktop) on this window.Selecting this feature enables you to create the shortcut for all the users of a given computer, not just the current user.

  17. After you have selected Next, the Choose Java Virtual Machine window appears.Select a Java Virtual Machine (JVM) to use for the AskAnywhere Editor.
    • To choose a JVM specifically for this application, select Install a Java VM specifically for this application and then Install.
    • To choose a JVM already installed on your computer, select Install a Java VM already installed on this system, highlight the desired JVM from the list provided, and then select Install.
    • To choose a JVM that is already installed on your computer but not listed, select Search for Others or Choose Another and then select Install.

  18. After you have selected Install, the Installing AskAnywhere Editor screen appears.

  20. The Install Complete window appears.To complete the installation, select Done.
  21. Periodically, Senecio Software provides updates to the AskAnywhere Editor that are not yet included with the installer. We recommend that you check for and install any updates (if available) after you install the AskAnywhere Editor but before you begin using the AskAnywhere Editor. To determine whether there are additional updates available and to install an update (if available), launch the AskAnywhere Editor.

  23. From the About pull-down menu, select Software Update.

  25. To check for an updated version of the AskAnywhere Editor, select Yes. To cancel the check for an updated version and return to the AskAnywhere Editor, select No.
  26. After you have selected Yes, one of two windows appears.

    • If your version of the AskAnywhere Editor is the most recent one available, a window appears indicating that there is no updated version available at this time. To return to the AskAnywhere Editor, select OK. You may recheck for future updates at any time.

    • If your version is not the most recent one available, a window appears indicating that there is an updated version available and asking whether you would like to download it. To proceed with the download, select Yes. To cancel the download and return to the AskAnywhere Editor, select No.

  27. After you have selected Yes, a window briefly appears showing the progress of the download. When the download is complete, a second window appears verifying that the download is complete. To proceed with the install, select Yes from Click here to view a detailed graphic.the second window. To cancel the install and return to the AskAnywhere Editor, select No from the second window.
  28. After you have selected Yes, the AskAnywhere Editor closes and then reopens. (This may take a few moments.) You now have the most current version of the AskAnywhere Editor available for your use.

Error Messages

  • From the Java Security Warning window, if you select Deny or close the window rather than selecting OK, an error message appears if you try to install the AskAnywhere Editor at a later time during the current Internet session.To restart the install process for the AskAnywhere Editor, you must exit and re-enter your Internet browser.

  • After the system checks for space on your local disk, an error message may appear if you do not have enough free space in the folder designated for extraction of the AskAnywhere Editor install program.If this occurs, select Choose and specify a new location in which to extract the install program.
