Server Component Install Instructions

The following section provides information about installing the AskAnywhere server component on a dedicated server.

There are two ways to install the AskAnywhere server component.

1. We highly recommend that you use the install program provided by Senecio Software to install the AskAnywhere server component. In order to use the install program, you must have a graphical user interface (GUI), be installing the AskAnywhere server component on the same machine on which you are performing the install, and want to use the recommended JVM and Java servlet container. To use the install program, complete the steps provided in Using the Install Program.
2. If you are an advanced user (e.g., web administrator), you do not have a graphical user interface (GUI), are installing the AskAnywhere server component on a remote machine, or want to use a different JVM or Java web server than that which we are recommending, skip to Installing the Java Virtual Machine and then proceed through the remaining sections to complete the install. This process for installing the AskAnywhere is much more complex and involves many more steps than using the install program provided by Senecio Software.

Note: We have tested AskAnywhere with Tomcat 4.0.6 and include that version of Tomcat in the install program. As new versions of Tomcat become available, we cannot promise that they will function properly with AskAnywhere. However, if you choose to use another version we suggest you use one as close in sequence as possible to 4.0.6.
