Detailed Instructions for Downloading and Installing Tomcat in Unix-compatible Environments

1. The File Download window appears.  You can choose to:
   • Open the file and run the install directly from the current location.
   • Download and save the file to your computer and then run the install later.  We recommend you download this file to the location at which you want to install Tomcat (e.g., /usr/local/).
   • Cancel the download.  Note:  In order to install and use the AskAnywhere server component, you must install a Java servlet container.
2. Unzip and extract the downloaded file (e.g., type tar –ungzip –xvf jakarta-tomcat-4.0.6-tar.gz in the terminal window).  (You will need the appropriate unzip software to complete this step.)
