Detailed Instructions for Downloading and Installing Tomcat in Windows

1. The File Download window appears.  You can choose to:
   • Open the file and run the install directly from the current location.  If you choose this option, skip to Step c.
   • Download and save the file to your computer and then run the install later.
   • Cancel the download.  Note:  In order to install and use the AskAnywhere server component, you must install a Java servlet container.
   • Obtain more information about your choices.
2. If you choose to download and save the file to your computer and then run the install later, the Save As window appears.
   • To save the file, in the File Name field, specify a location to which you want to download the Tomcat install program and then select Save.  Note:  For future reference, make a note of this location.
   • To cancel the download, select Cancel.
3. The Download Progress window appears.  This window provides information about the file you are downloading, the location from where the file originated, the estimated time and amount of data left to complete the download, the location to where you are downloading, and the transfer rate.  To cancel the download, select Cancel.
   • If you chose to open the file and run the install directly from the current location in Step a, the Security Warning window appears.
     • If you want to install and run the downloaded file, select Yes and then skip to Step e.
     • If you do not want to install and run the downloaded file, select No.
     • To obtain more information about your choices, select More Info.
4. Once the download is completed, the Download Complete window may appear.  This window provides information about the file that was saved, the location from where the file originated, how large the file was and how long it took to download, the location to where the file was downloaded, and the transfer rate.
   • To run the install program immediately, select Open.
   • To open the folder where the install program is located, select Open Folder.  From there you can run the install program by double-clicking on its icon.
   • To close the window and run the install later, select Close.  To later run the install program, you can double-click on its icon.
5. Once you choose to run the install program, the system indicates the location of the Java Development Kit it will use.  Select OK.
6. After you select OK, the InstallShield Wizard guides you through the install process.  This process may include accepting the license agreement, selecting the components you want to install, choosing a location for Tomcat, and setting up a user name and password.  Note:  We recommend you accept the default settings for the install; however, the Tomcat Documentation and Tomcat Source Code are not required for the AskAnywhere server component and the NT Service is only required if you are using Windows NT.  If you are using Windows NT however, we recommend that you include the NT Service, as it will enable Tomcat to startup while the operating system is starting.
   • To continue with the install, select I Agree, Next, Install, or Close, as appropriate.
   • To cancel the install, select Cancel.
   • To return to the previous screen, select Back, as available.
   • To skip setting up a user name and password, select Skip. Note:  We recommend that you enter a user name and password and do not skip this option.
