Detailed Instructions for Downloading and Installing the JVM in Unix-compatible Environments
- After you select the desired download in Step 3, carefully review the license agreement in its
entirety, and select either Accept or Decline. Note: In order to install and use the AskAnywhere server component, you must install a current JVM on your computer.
- After you accept the license agreement, the requested download
appears. To start the download, select Download j2sdk-1_4_1-linux-i586-rpm.bin.
- You can now choose to
- Open the file and run the install directly from the current location. If you choose this
option, skip to Step e.
- Download and save the file to your computer and then
run the install later.
- Cancel the download.
- If you choose to download and save the file to your computer
and then run the install later, the Save As window appears.
- To save the file, in the Location field, specify a location to which you want to
download the JVM install program and select OK.
Note: For future reference, make a note of this
location.
- To cancel the download, select Cancel.
- The Download Progress window appears. This window provides information about the
file you are downloading, the location to where you are downloading, the estimated time and amount of data left to complete the download, and the transfer rate. To cancel the download,
select Cancel.
- If you chose to open the file and run the install directly from the current location in Step c, the Security Warning window appears.
- If you want to install and run the downloaded file, select Yes and then skip to Step g.
- If you do not want to install and run the downloaded file, select No.
- To obtain more information about your choices, select More Info.
- Once the download is completed, change the downloaded file to executable permission
(e.g., type chmod +x j2sdk-1_4_1-linux-i586-rpm.bin in the terminal window).
- Execute the downloaded file (e.g., type, ./j2skd-1_4_1-linux-i586-rpm.bin in the terminal window).
- Carefully review the license agreement in its entirety and select either Yes or No.
- Run the new rpm file (e.g., type rpm –iv j2sdk-1_4_1-fcs-linux-i586.rpm in the terminal window).
