Detailed Instructions for Downloading and Installing the JVM in Windows

1. After you select the desired download in Step 3, carefully review the license agreement in its entirety, and select either Accept or Decline.  Note:  In order to install and use the AskAnywhere server component, you must install a current JVM on your computer.
2. After you accept the license agreement, the requested download appears.  To start the download, select Download j2sdk-1_4_1-windows-i586.exe.
3. You can now choose to
   • Open the file and run the install directly from the current location.  If you choose this option, skip to Step e.
   • Download and save the file to your computer and then run the install later.
   • Cancel the download.
   • Obtain more information about your choices.
4. If you choose to download and save the file to your computer and then run the install later, the Save As window appears.
   • To save the file, in the File Name field, specify a location to which you want to download the JVM install program and then select Save.  Note:  For future reference, make a note of this location.
   • To cancel the download, select Cancel.
5. The Download Progress window appears.  This window provides information about the file you are downloading, the location from where the file originated, the estimated time and amount of data left to complete the download, the location to where you are downloading, and the transfer rate.  To cancel the download, select Cancel.
• If you chose to open the file and run the install directly from the current location in Step c, the Security Warning window appears.
  • If you want to install and run the downloaded file, select Yes and then skip to Step g.
  • If you do not want to install and run the downloaded file, select No.
  • To obtain more information about your choices, select More Info.
6. Once the download is completed, the Download Complete window may appear.  This window provides information about the file that was saved, the location from where the file originated, how large the file was and how long it took to download, the location to where the file was downloaded, and the transfer rate.
   • To run the install program immediately, select Open.
   • To open the folder where the install program is located, select Open Folder.  From there you can run the install program by double-clicking on its icon.
   • To close the window and run the install later, select Close.  To run the install program later, double-click on its icon.
7. Once you choose to run the install program, the InstallShield Wizard guides you through the install process.  This process may include accepting the license agreement, choosing a location for the JVM, selecting the components you want to install, selecting the browser(s) for which this Java plug-in will be the default Java runtime environment, and selecting whether you want to view the README file when the installation is completed.  Note: We recommend you accept the default settings for the install; however, the Demos and Java Sources are not required.
   • To continue with the install, select Next, Yes, or Finish, as appropriate.
   • To cancel the install, select Cancel, as appropriate.
   • To return to the previous screen, select Back, as available.
