Using the Install Program

The following section provides information about installing the AskAnywhere server component using the install program provided by Senecio Software. To install the AskAnywhere server component, complete the following steps.

Go to http://www.senecio.com/askdownload.html.

In the AskAnywhere Download section, fill out the required registration information and select Download Software. Note: From the AskAnywhere Package pull-down menu, select AskAnywhere Server Component - GUI Installer.

To clear all the information on the form, select Reset Form. Caution: Selecting Reset Form deletes all the information on the form.
To make a change to a specific field value(s) on the form, move your cursor to the desired field(s) and make the required change(s).

Note: All fields marked with an asterisk (*) are required. The system will not allow you to move to the next step in the installation process until you have entered data in all of the required fields.

After you have completed the Registration screen and selected Download Software, the Security Warning window appears. Select Yes to continue with the installation.
- To cancel the installation, select No.
- To obtain additional information about this window, select More Info.

After you have selected Yes from the Security Warning window, download the appropriate software by performing one of the following steps.

Select Start Installer for xxx (where “xxx” is the name of the recommended installation for your platform) and select or deselect the Include VM in Download checkbox. The Include VM in Download option enables you to choose whether you want to download a Java Virtual Machine (JVM) with the AskAnywhere server component. The system defaults to include a VM in the download.
Notes:
- If you do not have a Java Virtual Machine (JVM) installed on your computer, are unsure about whether you have one installed, or are unsure that your JVM is current, ensure that Include VM in Download is selected (i.e., a check mark appears in the Include VM in Download checkbox). For most operating systems, the install process will later ask you which JVM you want to use for the AskAnywhere server component.
- If you are sure that you already have a current JVM installed on your computer and want to use that JVM for the AskAnywhere server component, ensure that Include VM in Download is not selected (i.e., no check mark appears in the Include VM in Download checkbox).
Select the appropriate download from the list of Available Installers. This list also provides options for including or not including the JVM with the download.

Note: If you choose to select a download from the list of Available Installers, you should refer to the instructions for that specific download, as you will be required to perform additional steps from those listed in this documentation. For example, the system will ask you where to place that download file, and you will need to run the download file yourself rather than the system doing it for you automatically. To view the appropriate instructions, select View beside the desired download.

After you have selected to download the appropriate software, the Checking Space on Local Disk window appears briefly. To cancel the download, select Cancel.

The Download Progress window appears. This window provides information about how far the download has progressed, approximately how much time is remaining for the download, and the location in which the download is storing the file on your computer. We recommend that you note the location for future reference. To cancel the download, select Cancel.

Note: The system may skip this step if you have previously downloaded the AskAnywhere server component install program.

The Starting Installer and InstallAnywhere windows appear. The first window reiterates the information about the location in which the installer is being downloaded; the second window provides information about the progress of the extraction. To cancel the extraction, select Cancel from the second window.

A language selection screen appears. The default language for the install program is English. To select a different language, select the desired language from the Language pull-down menu. Select OK to proceed with the installation.

After you have selected OK, the Introduction window appears. Select Next to proceed with the installation.
Notes:
- At any time during the installation process, if you do not want to continue with the installation, select Cancel. You are then given a choice to return to the install (Resume) or cancel it (Quit).
- At any time during the installation process, if you want to return to the previous screen, select Previous.
After you have selected Next, several License Agreement windows appear. Carefully review each license agreement in its entirety and determine whether you want to accept the license agreement terms.
- To accept the license agreement terms and proceed with the installation, select I accept the terms of the License Agreement and then Next.
- If you do not agree to accept the license agreement, select I do NOT accept the terms of the License Agreement. You are then given a choice to return to the license agreement (Resume) or cancel the installation (Quit).
After you have accepted the terms of the various license agreements, the Choose Install Set window appears. Select the install set you want installed.
- To install the AskAnywhere server component with the Java server Apache Tomcat, select AskAnywhere (Recommended) and then select Next. Note: This is the default.
- To install the AskAnywhere server component without the Java server Apache Tomcat, select AskAnywhere without Tomcat and then select Next.
After you have selected Next, the Choose Java Virtual Machine window appears. Select a Java Virtual Machine (JVM) to use for the AskAnywhere server component.

To choose a JVM specifically for this application, select Install a Java VM specifically for this application and then Install.
To choose a JVM already installed on your computer, select Install a Java VM already installed on this system, highlight the desired JVM from the list provided, and then select Install.
To choose a JVM that is already installed on your computer but not listed, select Search for Others or Choose Another and then select Install.

After you have selected Next, the Choose Install Folder window appears. Select the location in which you want the AskAnywhere server component program installed.

To select the default location (i.e., C:\Program Files\AskAnywhere_Tomcat), select Next.
To select a location different from the default, either type the path directly in the Where Would You Like to Install? field or select Choose to access the Browse for Folder window and then select Next.
To restore the default location, select Restore Default Folder.

After you have selected Next, the Choose Shortcut Location window appears. Select the location in which you want the AskAnywhere server component product icons installed.

To choose a new program group (i.e., subdirectory within the Windows\Start Menu directory), select In a new Program Group, enter the name of the program group in the associated field, and select Next.
To choose an existing program group, select In an existing Program Group, select the name of the program group from the associated pull-down menu, and select Next.
To choose the Start Menu, select In the Start Menu and then Next.
To choose the Desktop, select On the Desktop and then Next.
To choose the Quick Launch Bar, select In the Quick Launch Bar and then Next.
To choose another location, select Other, enter the name of the other location in the associated field or select Choose to access the Browse for Folder window, and then select Next.
To forego creating product icons for the AskAnywhere server component, select Don’t create icons and then Next.

Note: The Create Icons for All Users option is available with select options (e.g., In a new Program Group, In the Start Menu, On the Desktop) on this window. Selecting this feature enables you to create the shortcut for all the users of a given computer, not just the current user.

After you have selected Next, the Pre-Installation Summary window appears. To proceed with the installation, select Next.

After you have selected Install, the Installing AskAnywhere Server Component screen appears.

Once the system has installed all of the appropriate files, the Install Complete window appears as well as the documentation for Implementing the Server Component. To complete the installation, select Done from the Install Complete window.
