Bowling Green, Ohio, January 20, 1998 - Senecio Software, Inc. today reaffirmed its commitment to the Macintosh science
market with release of two free starter versions of its popular science software products - FloStat 2 and IPSS.
"The widely publicized departure of several major developers from the Macintosh science market, in particular, SPSS,
Inc., has obviously increased concern among users," said, Dr. Jerry Wicks, President of Senecio Software, Inc. "The recent
announcement that SPSS would no longer develop their statistics program for the Macintosh was a big disappointment to many,
myself included. But, SPSS also announced they were ending development of the mainframe package as well. Unfortunately for
SPSS The Mac version always had the feel of a Windows-port. It was a clear weakness. My guess is SPSS had been facing stiff
competition from SAS Institute Inc.in both the Mac and mainframe markets, and therefore I don't think their departure is as
significant as some have suggested. The Macintosh is a very large market and one still filled with excitement and opportunity.
All of us at Senecio Software look forward to the company being an active player in the Mac market for years to come."
As a show of its support, Senecio Software is releasing free starter versions of its statistical analysis program, FloStat 2,
and population projection program, IPSS.
Flo·Stat 2
Flo·Stat 2 is a compact, but powerful, statistical analysis and graphics package for education, business and research. Its
low cost and simplicity make it the perfect choice for the first time buyer. Flo·Stat's data importing and exporting features,
basic graphics, industry-standard tabular output, and mainframe-like capabilities in turn make it the ideal analytic tool for
a wide range of business and research projects.
IPSS
The Interactive Population Statistical System is an easy-to-use, interactive population projection and life table program
for the Macintosh. Users quickly learn about the demographic forces underlying population and social change. Students in the
social sciences, market researchers and government and city planners all gain a better understanding of population dynamics
when using IPSS.
